I Have a Gambling Addiction and I Lied to My Friends and girlfriend. What Do I Do?

Question by Jacob: I have a gambling addiction and I lied to my friends and girlfriend. What do I do?
I have a gambling addiction and I spent my girlfriends money and all my money ($ 2100.00). I told her I lost the money because someone robbed me. I just confessed to her and my friends and now she hates me. We have been together for 2 years and I have helped her raise her child since she was born. What do I do?

I would definately surround yourself with people who don’t gamble. If you get tempted while going to certain places or seeing certain people, I would stop those things. I’m glad that you confessed. I doubt she actually hates you. I think she hates what you did. Actions speak louder than words. I may try finding a phycologist or a support group. After a few months when you feel as if you are more ready, I would give her a more sincere apology after she is calm. Maybe a card and a small gift? I’m not sure what shes like so its hard to say. Definately prove to her that you love both her and the kids. Just don’t come on too strong especially while shes upset. I hope that you begin recovery with your addiction to gambling and that you do well. I wish you the best!
