Do Most Stores in California Perform Drug Tests, Background Checks, and Credit Checks to Hire Someone?

Question by Shooting Star: Do most stores in California perform drug tests, background checks, and credit checks to hire someone?
More specifically stores like, Costco, Staples, Best Buy, Office Max, Office Depot, Macy’s, Walmart.
But do they do all of these tests in order to determine who to hire?

Or is it required for these kind of department stores to perform these tests in California?

What if you have bad credit? Does that make an employer not want to hire you?

Most if not all will do testing; this is not only in Ca, but nationwide. Bad credit may effect a hiring; best to be upfront on an app that you have poor credit; the honesty will be appreciated

Yep, they drug test for insurance purposes (their own insurance). Credit checks may be done, depending on the position. But lots of people have bad credit, so for many positions it doesn’t matter. Health records may also be checked, especially in high paid jobs.

You need to assume they will be checking, so just be honest.

Good luck!
