Do You Think DUI Repeated Offenders Should Got to a Rehab Facility Instead of Taking AA Classes?
Question by daff73: Do you think DUI repeated offenders should got to a rehab facility instead of taking AA classes?
I think someone who gets more than 1 DUI definitely has a problem. If so, I think to be sentenced to a rehab clinic would be far more suitable then to do community service, or just a few days in the county jails. They need to get rid of the source of the problem. Drinking. Do you agree?

Anyone that’s had a drinking problem knows you can’t force them to get help until they’re ready. Personally…..I don’t like the idea of court ordered AA meetings because it’s compromises the anonymity of the people trying to do something. Maybe AA meetings in jail. I agree…..a few days in jail does nothing. Less time in exchange for re-hab or meetings is just a bartering tool that rarely works. Plus…..way too many of the re-habs they send them to aren’t much more than a holding place with a few sessions. They need to feel there is no option, no easy way out, but to quit drinking and unfortunatly many just don’t.
They need a minimum of 30 days without alcohol to get through the physical withdrawl. After that is personal work and that is when AA and therapy can help if they want to change. I don’t know if they have developed any drugs that they could mandate that would make them sick as a dog if they drank or not.
It’s difficult to find the 1 solution for everyone. A persons bottom is different for everyone. I met one woman who’s bottom was stealing money from the offering plate at church. Others are still drinking when they’re homeless, sick or in jail for murder. But you’re right……gotta get rid of booze to find out what’s left to work with underneath.
