How Would Leaglizing Pot Help the Economy in California and Oregon?

Question by Jonny B: How would leaglizing pot help the economy in California and Oregon?
I have read that California and Oregon are tossing this idea around for more tax revenue. Did they ever think people would just grow their own? Its not like pot is hard to grow or something. I personally could care less if pot is legalized or not.
The government taxes alcohol, and people are allowed to make their own wine, beer, etc… Why would pot be any different?
