You might want to look into 12 step programs, state programs or treatment programs with payment plans. Look for online resources and talk to others who have been through addiction. Wishing you the best of luck.

Can My Friend Get His Record Expunged?

Question by : Can my friend get his record expunged?
I feel bad for my friend. He’s been trying so hard but he can’t land a decent job because of his criminal record. I want to help him, but I can’t really think of any way other than helping him to get his record expunged. Only I don’t know much about the law, so I’m not sure if it’s even possible. I don’t want to bring it up unless I know for sure he could get it expunged. He did time for a felony when he was 17. He had an arrest before that, there was jail time but no conviction (like he didn’t get sentenced to prison time) because he was under suspicion of committing another violent felony. That was when he was 14. So he has an arrest from when he was 14 and a conviction from when he was 17, that he was tried as an adult for. We’re in New York State if that matters (he was also arrested + sentenced in NY). So do you think it’s possible for him to get his record expunged? If not, how else can I help him?

How Much Can Drugs Harm a Baby During the First Month of Pregnancy?

Question by satankitty: How much can drugs harm a baby during the first month of pregnancy?
I found out I was pregnant 2 days ago. In the past few weeks I have taken 1 (possibly 2) ecxtasy pills, drank beer, smoked ciggarettes on a daily basis, and smoked one joint of marijuana. I’m thinking of keeping the baby, so I’m not going to do those things anymore. I’m just wondering if anyone can tell me the chances of the baby comming out deformed or retarted? Thank you.

Rockburn Presents – Nora Volkow

Rockburn Presents – Nora Volkow – Dr. Nora Volkow is the Director of the prestigious National Institute of Drug Abuse in Washington and a pioneer in the use of brain imaging in the pursuit of understanding drug addiction. Her landmark studies helped determine that drug addiction is not a character flaw or a sign of moral corruption but a chronic disease that physically changes the brain. Her research has also contributed to the understanding of obesity, ADHD and the behavioural changes related to aging. Dr. Volkow was born in Mexico City and lived in the house where her great-grandfather, the Russian revolutionary leader, Leon Trotsky was assassinated under orders from Josef Stalin. Dr. Volkow earned a medical degree from the National University of Mexico and completed her psychiatric residency at New York University. Much of her research was done at the Brookhaven National Laboratory where she served as Director of Nuclear Medicine and Chair of the Medical Department before she was appointed the National Institute on Drug Abuse in 2003. Ken Rockburn spoke to Dr. Nora Volkow in Bethesda, Maryland.
