Suboxone (also known as buprenorphine) is indeed a medication, used to treat addictions to opioids, prescription pills, etc. Its been said to be very effective as it helps to eliminate and treat symptoms that addicts will experience when going through withdrawals after they stop using the substance being abused.

I work in a drug/alcohol rehab clinic in the UK and we do indeed use Suboxone to help with withdrawal symptoms and it’s very effective, however detoxing an addict or an alcoholic is only the first part of the treatment, many addicts/alcoholics after they have been detoxed feel much better and think it’s ok to carry on and so the cycle often continues.

During and after detoxing we carry out the program of recovery as laid down by Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous, by the time clients leave us the desire for drugs and/or alcohol have been removed, forever if they continue practising the program.
