Inpatient Drug Rehab in NYC/5 Boroughs?

Question by jej: Inpatient drug rehab in NYC/5 boroughs?
I have a friend who is ready to check into a rehab for his drug addiction, however, he is on methadone maintenance and does not want to quit it. I was told by a rehab center in NYC that no New York state inpatient program will accept a methadone patient if they are on more than 40 milligrams, then a mental health clinician told me that is not true. Does anyone know of an inpatient program in the 5 boroughs or Westchester County NY that will allow him to be maintained on methadone? I googled but could not find much. Thanks.

I’m not sure of the exact answer, but I can email you treatment programs in that area, and you may call the one’s on the list that pertain to inpatient treatment.

The general site for information about counseling and treatment programs: http://dasis3.samhsa.gov/ and can click one’s state of residence and then complete the search.

I just had an epiphany of sorts 🙂 Perhaps your friend can enter a Detox(ification) facility until he gets off of any types of drugs entirely and then enter inpatient and/or outpatient treatment.

Please consider attending Al-Anon and/or Nar-anon meetings, both of which are for the family and friends of the problem drinker and drug addict, respectively.

For Al-Anon meetings (and one may attend an “open” meeting if the loved one doesn’t have a drinking problem): http://www.al-anon.alateen.org

For Nar-anon meetings (but there are usually more Al-Anon meetings than Nar-anon nationwide): http://nar-anon.org
