What Are the Drugs Being Used for Substance Abuse Treatments?

Question by aiyana ss: What are the drugs being used for substance abuse treatments?
I was wondering what drugs were being used for the treatment of heroin addiction. I just got intrigued because I’ve always thought that addicts just had to get off heroin (or whatever substance it is that they’re addicted to) and that that would be enough for them to get better.

Supporting Someone in Drug Rehab?

Question by Jango: Supporting someone in drug rehab?
My sister’s going into a private rehab facility for heroin addiction. She made the choice herself and has been on methadone for 2 months since she quit. So she’s coming off the methadone now. How can I support and encourage her while she’s in there? Loneliness seems to be a big aspect of her feeling terrible at the moment and she really seems to want her family right now (my parents are completely supporting her). How can I help ensure she doesn’t quit and makes it through? She’ll be in rehab for a month and something akin to a medical hotel for 5 months after that. My only addiction in life has been cigarettes so I can’t imagine what it must be like for her. Are there any recovered/recovering addicts that can share some help on this?

What Help Is Available Within England for Heroin Addiction?

Question by Maverick: What help is available within England for Heroin Addiction?
A family member of mine has a Heroin addiction. I have no idea how I can go about helping them, but having already lost one member to the drug, I do not wish to see another lose their life to it, especially one I’m so close to.

I’ve done some searching, but haven’t really found much information. It seems the only real help available has to be paid for and the prices are extortionate at best.

I don’t have much money myself, and neither does the person I wish to help.
